Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation

Welcome Remarks from the Coordinator

I am delighted to welcome you all to our SARPCCO Website. This interactive platform has been designed to promote the ideals of our Regional Police Chiefs in their undying quest of creating a conducive atmosphere which enables the realization of our SADC vision, “of a Common Future, a future within a regional community that will ensure economic well-being,improvement of the standards of living and quality of life, freedom and social justice and peace and security for the people of Southern Africa.” Peace and security being unarguably pre-conditions of economic prosperity, we are encouraged to have all our concerted efforts towards contributing to an effective policing philosophy, which largely depends on information sharing and exchange of best practices across a wide spectrum of all sectors of society. Our policing landscape has undergone a rapid transformative process over the past years, presenting an array of challenges. These challenges require constant renewal of strategies that are aligned to the current pace of technological advancement towards improving our operational efficiency and outcomes. Coming up with well synthesized strategies in fighting transnational organized crime requires an inclusive process which this platform seeks to provide.

We are mindful of the fact that, the complexities associated with policing are constantly compounded by various cross-cutting issues obtaining from different environmental microcosm in our region. This range from different policing terrains, cultural dynamics as well as a myriad of challenges and threats. These factors have a bearing on the way we prosecute our duties and thus demand our special consideration as we strategize our best line of approach. There is no doubt that this daunting task cannot be managed by police organizations alone, but rather requires a multifaceted approach involving other relevant stakeholders such as the Civil Society Organizations, Governmental and Non-Governmental Organisations as well as the Academia. Such a unified approach should culminate into a symbiotic relationship that brings all of us together in dealing with transnational organised crime.

It is our fervent hope that interacting with each other on this platform will connect us together in this endeavour. Subsequently, the launch of this platform has indeed ushered in a new era that imbues a spirit of high level cooperation among nations in the region and beyond.  As we build strong partnerships, I call upon members of our communities, the academia, medical fraternity, researchers, economists, legal practitioners, entrepreneurs and all relevant stakeholders to generate and synergize ideas towards achieving peace and tranquility in our region and beyond. Enhancing our service delivery in achieving public safety remains our central theme. It is thus, important for us to receive feedback from you all as we seek to create crime free communities in our beautiful region of Southern Africa.
